THE LIBRARY
The Library of the History of Photography is an integral part of the Alinari Museum and contains publications that range from the birth of photography up to the
present. It can be used, subject to appointment, by scholars, and contains all the Alinari
publications, the principle historical and artistic journals published in Italy on
photography, catalogues of the principle auction houses, for a total of over 16,000 titles specialized in
photography.
Among the best known periodicals is the entire collection of the
"Bullettino della Società Fotografica Italiana" published in Florence from 1889 to 1912, the prestigious
"Fotografia Artistica" published in Turin from 1904 to 1916 and the complete collection of
"Camera Work", edited by Alfred Stieglitz and published in New York from 1903 to 1917. Hundreds and hundreds of some of the most important books devoted to photography throughout the world are also available to
scholars.
The Library is a major reference point for all scholars of
photography, for researchers, students and all those interested in any way whatsoever in the birth and development of that great invention of
Niépce, Daguerre and Talbot
